Festive Kombucha Orange Punch: Easy Recipe

Christmas is just around the corner – a warm kombucha punch is a must. This non-alcoholic Christmas punch is an aromatic alternative to mulled wine and can be easily prepared at home with just a few ingredients. Oranges, cinnamon, star anise, and vanilla give the drink a fruity-spicy note. For this, you can use our Raw Original Kombucha or make kombucha yourself.

Kombucha brings a pleasantly tart, fermented note to the Christmas punch. Together with freshly squeezed orange juice and winter spices, it creates a special punch that you can enjoy warm on cold days. Important: Kombucha should not be heated strongly or boiled if you want to preserve its typical taste and as many of its live microorganisms as possible.

Recipe: Hot Kombucha Orange Punch

You will need for 5 people:

  • 1 liter kombucha, store-bought or homemade
  • 3 oranges
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, to taste
  • 1 large cooking pot

How to prepare the kombucha punch:

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly. Juice them and collect the juice. If you like, you can also use some orange peel for more aroma.
  2. Cut the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the vanilla seeds.
  3. Add the orange juice together with cinnamon sticks, star anise, vanilla seeds, and brown sugar to a pot.
  4. Heat the mixture over medium heat for about 5 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the spices have released their aroma. Do not boil it for longer than necessary.
  5. Remove the pot from the stove and let the mixture cool down a bit. Then stir in the kombucha. If necessary, carefully heat the punch further without bringing it to a boil.
  6. Remove the spices if desired and serve the kombucha orange punch in heat-resistant glasses or mugs.

Serving tip: Decorate the winter kombucha punch with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick. If you like it sweeter, you can add a little more sugar to taste. It tastes best freshly prepared.

Frequently Asked Questions about Kombucha Punch

Is kombucha punch non-alcoholic?

With non-alcoholic kombucha and without additional alcoholic ingredients, a non-alcoholic version can be prepared. However, kombucha may contain small amounts of alcohol due to fermentation. If you must completely avoid alcohol, check the information on the product you are using.

Can you heat kombucha?

Yes, kombucha can be used for a warm punch. Strong heating can change its taste and composition and may affect live microorganisms. Therefore, add the kombucha only after heating the spice mixture and then heat it carefully.

Can I prepare the kombucha orange punch in advance?

You can prepare the orange-spice mixture and store it refrigerated. For the best aroma, add the kombucha just before serving and carefully heat the punch. You should cool leftovers promptly, store them in the refrigerator, and consume them soon.
